Legion baseball: Metz leads Post 94 to win in Mid-Atlantic opener

CAMDEN, N.J. - Riley Metz was 2-for-3 with an RBI double then closed out the final 1 1/3 innings to get the save for South Charleston Post 94 on Thursday, as the team downed Gibbsboro, N.J., 4-3 in the opening round of the American Legion Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament.

Metz, who also scored a run, took over in relief of starter and winning pitcher Jarod Jobst with two outs in the eighth, and fought to hold on to a 4-0 lead in the ninth. A throwing error and a wild pitch by the former Hurricane High School standout enabled Gibbsboro - the New Jersey state champion - to pull within a run of the lead before Metz nailed down the win by retiring pinch-hitter Alex Bussison.
