Weekend Recipe ? Vitality Soup | LIVE GREAT FOOD BLOG

If the stresses of work and life are getting to you and you feel lethargic, boost your vitality and strengthen your body with this tonic soup recipe from Sin Chong. Wolfberry, one of nature?s top superfoods, adds vitamins, minerals and is thought to improve your liver and kidney function, as well enhance your vision and improve your vitality.

Other herbs in this recipe include cuscuta seeds, which are used by Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners to help both yin and yang deficiencies, and red ginseng, which is thought to reduce fatigue and enhance your stamina. Herbalists often use eucommia bark to strengthen bones and muscles, while seal whip, deer whip and desert-living cistanche are thought to be great for boosting vitality.

There are two ways to get the most from these healthy herbs ? you can either make a herbal decoction or boil up a tonic soup. We?ve provided instructions for both ? depending on what you prefer.

Vitality Tonic Soup

Ingredients

?????????????? 10g wolfberry

?????????????? 10g cuscuta seeds

?????????????? 6g desert-living cistanche

?????????????? 5g deer whip

?????????????? 5g seal whip

?????????????? 2g deer antler

?????????????? 3g red ginseng

?????????????? 10g eucommia bark

To make a herbal decoction:

Rinse the herbs in clean water and place in an earthen pot. Add 3 to 5 bowls of water and immerse for an hour. Bring the water to a boil before lowering the heat and simmering for 2 to 3 hours.

Drink one bowl of the decoction once or twice a day. You can make a second decoction by reusing the herbal dregs and repeating the above method.

To make herbal soup:

?????????????? Black chicken or another type of meat

?????????????? Salt or seasoning to taste

Add 8 to 12 bowls of water to the washed herbs and soak for an hour. Add in the black chicken or another meat of your choice and bring the water to a boil. Simmer for 2 to 3 hours and season to taste. Serve.
