Virus That Kills Cancer Developed in Canada

An anti-cancer virus has been developed in Canada and is exciting news in the world of what?s known as oncolytic viruses. oncolytic viruses are anti-cancer viruses that actually attack and shrink cancerous cells and tumors. And while this news is preliminary

The study included 23 cancer patients in the advance stages of their diseases, in other words the cancer had metastasized to other organs. All of the patients had failed to respond the usual end-stage treatments. The cancer patients each received five injections of a virus called JX-594, a live vaccine that had been used in similar form for small pox. After eight to 10 days, the doctors biopsied the patients? tumors and found that the virus was replicating in the tumors and not in the normal tissue, which is very encouraging.

The best news is that six out of eight patients who received the highest dose saw their tumors either shrink or at least not get any bigger. None of the patients has major side effects from the virus injection.

This is all exciting news for both cancer sufferers and their loved ones, but of course also for the rest of us as cancer is such a large killer all over the world. However at this point, the best cancer fighters still remain, in many cases, lifestyle choices and prevention.? Getting adequate vitamin D and cutting back on red meat has shown promise in reducing colon cancer risk. Dietary choices such as cruciferous vegetables, flaxseed and fish oil have shown promise in fighting breast cancer. And in the nothing-new department, quitting smoking cuts back on not only lung cancer risk, but also breast, prostate and throat cancers in addition to many more.
