Restaurant Must Haves on That Are Often Forgotten | Watkins ...

When starting a restaurant or restocking, there are some items and products that are often forgotten. While stocking up on extra pots and pans or glassware is easy to remember, some things seem to fall through the cracks. What about cleaning supplies? Or restaurant supplies like to-go boxes and plastic silverware? Because of the hectic nature of most restaurants, these items seem to be forgotten when it comes to restocking. So next the next time it’s time to restocking, don’t forget these important restaurant must haves! To-go Orders: Even if the restaurant isn’t a catering business or if it doesn’t specializes in take out food, it’s important to remember that people will want to take food home. This means stocking up restaurant supplies like paper plates and bags. While the food is important, be prepared for people who ask to take drinks home. Having plastic cups with lids and straws is not only useful for to-go drink orders, but many parents will request these for their children as well. Bathroom Cleaning Supplies: Because the bathroom is one of the most important places to keep clean in a restaurant, it is important to be well stocked in all of the bathroom cleaning supplies. While this includes hand soap, hand towels and toilet paper, make sure not to forget heavy duty cleaners and supplies. This includes mops, toilet plungers and surface and mirror cleaners. If a customer enters a messy or dirty bathroom, it’s a direct reflection on the cleanliness of the kitchen, staff and food as well. So make sure to constantly monitor the bathroom during restaurant hours. It is also important to regularly monitor how the stock of cleaning supplies and restroom supplies are getting. By restocking in large quantities will reduce overall costs, make sure not to forget that the amount of these products will eventually diminish so be prepared when it’s getting close to time to order more. Running out of toilet paper on a busy night at the restaurant is never a good business practice! Kitchen Cleaning Supplies: While keeping the bathroom cosmetically clean is important to portraying a healthy and safe restaurant, a clean kitchen is equally important. If regularly cleaning is not done, it can be a major health hazard to customers and employees, and it will ultimately lead to a reduction of sales and returning customers. This is why having a large stock of kitchen cleaning supplies is important and should never be forgotten. Make sure the chemicals and products used are also safe because they will be coming in contact with food and people. And since most restaurants have large amounts of dishes to clean as well as uniforms, napkins and table cloths to wash, be well stocked in dishwashing detergent as well as laundry detergent. Keep some bleach around for stains and accidents too. Also, many of the cleaning supplies used in the restroom, like mirror cleaner and mops, can be used to clean the restaurant’s windows and floors as well.
