'Errection' of fencing along Indo-Bangla border in Tripura on cards

Agartala, Feb 9: Border Guards of Bangladesh have agreed in principle to allow single step erection of wire fencing along zero line between India and Bangladesh border in as many as 13 locations of Tripura.
BSF officials here said, ?following the demand of zero line fencing from the Tripura government, the Union Home Ministry took the matter with Bangladesh through External Affairs Ministry.? During flag meetings of the border guards of both the countries on Februay 6, BGB, finally, gave positive indication on the issue.
Both the authorities at Akhaura checkpost decided that all disputes, including erection of fencing in five specific spots, in first phase would be solved by mutual dialogues, officials said.
BGB jawans had halted a construction of culvert in the Akhaura border last week that resulted in stopping export-import trades in Akhaura LCP.
Tripura had demanded modification of existing Indira-Mujibur agreement of border management that envisaged the erection of fencing at least 150 yards inside Indian territory from the actual border line, as in a few Indian market, schools and other public buildings fall within the demarcation.
Earlier, in last week both BSF and BGB after a meeting of senior officials of the two sides at Khowai had decided that they would meet every four months to resolve border disputes and check cross-border movement of militants.
The BSF and BGB would also undertake joint patrolling along the disputed, vulnerable and crime-prone areas of the India-Bangladesh border, BSF officials added. (UNI)
