To some extent I'm saddened to hear that the PSP Go is officially being phased out. I was very excited when it was first announced and picked one up as soon as it was released, only to have the reality sink in. I could do without being able to trade or sell my games, and even not having access to the PSP's entire catalog of games didn't kill it for me. Not having access to the sales offered at Amazon and elsewhere hurt, but I was willing to pay a premium for the convenience of having all of my games stored on the system. The final straw came when games I was looking forward to didn't hit PSN at the same time as they on UMD; it was then I realized that I had made a mistake by paying a premium for a digital-only system that wasn't supported in the way it needed to be. (It also didn't help that my fingers never fit on the shoulder buttons all that well, either.) Hopefully Sony has learned its lesson from the Go and will better support the digital side when it comes to the NGP so, if I want to, it'll be a viable option to go all-digital with the new handheld.

And here's what else happened today:Alice Also Available as a Download
American McGee's Alice will not only be available through the redemption of a one-time code that comes with Alice: Madness Returns, it'll also be released as a downloadable game on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It'll cost $9.99 (800 Microsoft Points) upon release.

Over 187 Million iOS Devices Sold
Apple has sold a tremendous number of units carrying iOS. As of this past month, 187 million units in total have been sold. That includes 108 million iPhones, 60 million iPod Touches, and 19 million iPads. Even if you remove the iPad figure, that's a huge number of gaming-capable devices that can fit in someone's pocket. Some would argue that the iPhone and iPod Touch aren't competition for Nintendo and Sony, but when it's a device that can play games, is just as portable, and features a superior music player and internet connectivity, that makes it very serious and direct competition for the more traditional gaming platforms.
