Abbey Rep Defends Cartwheeling Verger

A spokesman for Westminster Abbey has defended the actions of an over-excited verger who was seen performing cartwheels on the red carpet shortly after Prince William and his new bride left their wedding venue.

The British royal married his longtime sweetheart Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge in a lavish ceremony at London's famous church on Friday in front of nearly 2,000 VIPs.

After the couple and their guests left the abbey, a church worker, dressed in a long black robe, was caught on camera running back into the abbey and joyously cartwheeling down the red carpet.

A representative for the venue has now backed the unnamed verger's spontaneous outburst, telling Britain's Daily Telegraph, "Our view is that the verger was simply reflecting what we all feel about a very successful service. It is a general reflection of the mood of the abbey and a job well done. It was long after the congregation had departed and we were all reflecting on what we had achieved."
